Thief Shoots, Kills Student Who Chased Him After Robbery
A Cal State Long Beach student was shot and killed when he intervened in an armed robbery, trying to catch a thief who had just stolen about $3,000 from his girlfriend, police said Sunday.
The student, Duncan Anderson, 23, died at Long Beach Community Hospital at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Long Beach Police Lt. Columbus Lowe said.
About half an hour earlier, Anderson’s girlfriend, whose name was not released by police, was robbed as she tried to place a bag containing about $3,000 into a Security Pacific Bank night deposit slot. Anderson chased the thief for about a block before the man shot him in the chest with a small-caliber pistol and escaped.
