Tests to Rate Skills of Football Players

Testing for area high school football players considering a college football career will be Saturday at University of San Diego High School. The testing program, developed by Dr. Robert Carlson, physical education chairman at San Diego State, will provide personal and performance data on California high school football players to colleges and universities seeking to recruit athletes.

Saturday’s clinic is one of 13 throughout the state. Registration is 8 to 8:30 a.m. and walk-in registration, if space is available, will be from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Cost is $40 per athlete. Participants should wear T-shirts, shorts, socks, tennis shoes and should bring seven-studded or molded football shoes.

GOLF

Stephanie Martin of Camarillo Rio Mesa High School had a par on the first hole of a playoff with Susan Pankau of Poway High School to win the girls’ individual championship at the California Interscholastic Federation-Southern California Golf Assn. championship Monday at the Bakersfield Country Club.

Both shot a four-over 78 during regulation.

Bakersfield West shot 388 to win the team championship. Poway was seventh at 409.

The Bob Breitbard Invitational golf tournament benefiting the U.S. Maccabiah team will be Friday at the Singing Hills Golf Course in El Cajon beginning at 11 a.m. Entry fee is $250.
