Former winery worker Ramon Salcido blames drugs for the April 14 rampage that took the lives of his wife, mother-in-law, two small daughters and a co-worker, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat said. The newspaper quoted Salcido, 28, as saying in a telephone call from Sonoma County Jail, “It wasn’t me who did that. It was drugs.” Witnesses have told detectives that Salcido spent the night before the killings drinking and using cocaine. The newspaper also quoted him as saying that he can accept a death sentence because without his wife and two children, “I am a dead man anyway.”
