Staton, 5 Others Sign Pro Contracts
Cal State Fullerton’s Dave Staton, a designated hitter and first baseman, and teammate Danny DeVille, a pitcher, both signed with the San Diego Padres Wednesday, and will report to the Padres’ Northwest League rookie team in Spokane, Wash.
Jason Friedman, a sophomore outfielder from Cypress College, signed with the Boston Red Sox and will report to a rookie camp in Winter Haven, Fla., this weekend.
Rich Lodding of Cypress, a sophomore right-handed pitcher, signed with the Seattle Mariners and will pitch for Bellingham, Wash., in the Northwest League.
Craig Paquette of Golden West, who played third base and shortstop, signed with the Oakland Athletics and reported Wednesday to the A’s Northwest League team in Medford, Ore.
Eddie Pierce, an outfielder and pitcher from Orange Coast, signed with Kansas City. He will pitch with the Royals’ rookie team in Eugene, Ore.
