Columbia Pictures will have more than a barrel of Monkees fans on its hands Saturday at its studios in Burbank when an L.A.-based fan club stages a protest of the Columbia/Coca-Cola suit to stop members of the original pre-fab four from using the group’s name. Three-fourths of the group (Davy Jones, Peter Tork and Micky Dolenz) reunited in 1987 and are currently on tour as the Monkees, with shows scheduled July 8 at the Celebrity Theatre in Anaheim and July 9 at the Universal Amphitheatre. The studio, though, claims it owns the rights to the name through the TV series for which the band was created. And if that’s not enough Monkee business, the annual L.A. Monkees convention will be held July 7-10 at the Sheraton Universal.
