A North Hollywood teen-ager died this morning after a possibly gang-related shooting at a Pacoima housing project, Los Angeles police said.

The 17-year-old boy, whose name was not released pending notification of his family, was found at 12:30 a.m. lying in the intersection of Carl Street and Carl Place in the San Fernando Gardens housing complex, Detective Al Ferrand said. The youth had been shot in the upper body and was taken to Pacifica Hospital of the Valley, where he died a short time later.

Ferrand said that there was no known motive for the attack but that the intersection where the youth was found is a known hangout for Pacoima gang members. He said detectives were still attempting to find witnesses to the shooting.
