THE SIDELINES : Magic to Miss Scholarship Classic
From Times wire services
INDIANAPOLIS — Magic Johnson, who was forced out of the NBA finals with a hamstring injury, will miss the Larry Bird Pro All-Star Scholarship Classic this weekend.
Johnson’s strained hamstring, suffered in Game 2 of the finals, was a factor in the Los Angeles Lakers’ four-game loss to the Detroit Pistons.
Among those who have agreed to play are Michael Jordon, Isiah Thomas, Dominique Wilkins and Moses Malone. Bird’s status for the game remains uncertain. He was to meet with Boston Celtics President Red Auerbach this week in an attempt to gain clearance to play.
