THE SIDELINES : Phillies Rout Cardinals, 11-2 in 1st Start by Newly Acquired Rookie
PHILADELPHIA — Rookie Dennis Cook, in his first start since being traded to Philadelphia by San Francisco, scattered three hits for seven innings, and newly acquired Len Dykstra hit a two-run homer as the Phillies routed St. Louis 11-2 today.
Cook, 2-0, dealt away by the Giants last Sunday in the trade for Steve Bedrosian, struck out four and walked three before Don Carman finished the game. Jose DeLeon, 8-6, was the loser for the Cardinals.
After scoring in the first on John Kruk’s RBI double, Philadelphia batted around in both the third and fourth innings.
In his three games with Philadelphia after being traded by the New York Mets, Dykstra is 6 for 13 with two doubles, a homer and six runs scored.
The lone Cardinals run off Cook came in the fifth when Terry Pendleton hit his fourth homer of the season.
