Work is under way on the $8.4-million San Diego Hospice Center.

The inpatient-care center for the terminally ill is being funded by the Kroc Foundation. Completion is scheduled by May, 1990.

Designed by Delawie Bretton Wilkes Associates, with Larry Rose as project architect, the center will be built by Dunphy Construction Co. on Vauclain Point in the Hillcrest area of San Diego. It will include five one- and two-story wood-frame structures totaling 71,220 square feet, with 24 patient quarters, living and dining rooms, a chapel, a pharmacy, a lab and areas for bereavement, meetings and physical therapy.
