Solana Beach attorney Etta Gillivan was inducted Tuesday as the first family law pro tem commissioner in the North County courts.
Gillivan, who has been in private practice in Solana Beach since 1979, is a graduate of Western State University and is experienced in domestic trials involving complex tax issues, valuation of businesses and custody matters. The State Bar of California named her a certified specialist in family law in 1987.
She was inducted into the position Tuesday afternoon by Superior Court Judge Thomas R. Murphy to handle domestic trials and settlements at the Vista courthouse. Commissioners now serve in San Diego juvenile and family courts. The appointment is expected to ease the North County court caseload crunch.
Gillivan serves as a board member of the North Coast Community Outreach Hospice and on the combined Institutional Review Board of the Scripps Memorial and San Luis Rey hospitals. She is past president of the North County chapter of the San Diego Lawyers Club and a past director of the Northern San Diego County Bar Assn.
