Three people were injured when a car failed to stop at a red light and struck the rear of a private school van in Anaheim, authorities said.

Two schoolchildren were in the van but neither was injured, California Highway Patrol spokesman Matt Clark said.

Three vehicles, including the van, were involved in the accident, which occurred about 2:40 p.m. at the intersection of Wilhelmina and East streets, Clark said.

The van was stopped behind a compact car at a red light when it was hit from behind by a Chevrolet El Camino, which was traveling about 40 m.p.h., he said. The van then hit the compact car.

Drivers of the three vehicles each suffered injuries, the most serious being a broken leg to the driver of the El Camino, Shawn Prichard, 27, of Buena Park.

The driver of the van, Christine Romero, 19, of Santa Ana, and driver of the compact, Gonzalo Salas, 43, of Anaheim, were treated at the scene, Clark said.
