A light earthquake shook the Shasta County area, jarring residents, cracking concrete and rattling houses, but there were no reports of injuries or serious damage. The magnitude 2.8 quake was centered about 18 miles east of Redding in the Whitmore area, according to the state Office of Emergency Services.
