Hazardous Disposal of Paint Charged
A Culver City company was charged Tuesday with illegally transporting 150 gallons of waste paint to the Spadra Landfill in Pomona.
Prestige Homes was scheduled to be arraigned July 28 on three violations of the health and safety code, including transporting hazardous waste and disposing of the waste. If convicted, the company could be fined up to $100,000.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Joseph Charney said inspectors intercepted the 150 gallons of waste paint before they could be disposed of at the landfill Feb. 4.
Charney said much of the paint was found to be ignitable and therefore hazardous under the law.
The prosecutor said Prestige Homes was warned in 1987 about illegally disposing of hazardous paint wastes at the Pomona landfill.
