Sheriff’s deputies chasing shooting suspects in Pasadena swerved to avoid a shot fired at them, triggering a three-car accident in which one deputy and three people in another car were slightly hurt, authorities said.

Deputies Ray Walker and Gary Parker, members of the Special Enforcement Bureau, were on patrol in Altadena Thursday night when they saw a car matching the description of one from which shots were fired earlier into an Altadena house, Deputy Van Mosley said.

The chase led into Pasadena, where at Orange Grove and Garfield avenues, the deputies were fired on from the car. The patrol car swerved, striking another car which then hit a third.

A man, a woman and a 5-year-old child in the first car were treated for minor injuries at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. Parker’s left knee was bruised. No one else was injured, Mosley said.

The suspects escaped. Their car was found abandoned a short time later.
