Sgt. Bob Clark said the shooting took place at 1:30 a.m. in a convenience store’s parking lot at the corner of Warner Avenue and Pacific Street. Three young men in a car pulled up next to another car and opened fire with a semiautomatic assault rifle.

Mark Anthony Brooks, 19, was shot once in the head and died instantly, police said. Michael Serrano, who was at the wheel of the car, was shot in the chest. A second passenger, Johnny Guerrero, 20, was shot once in the right buttock.
