Two crewmen were burned in an explosion aboard a Panamanian oil tanker anchored near a San Francisco pier, a Coast Guard officer said. Coast Guard personnel extinguished a fire aboard the Yamato Spirit in about 25 minutes, Petty Officer Chuck Wullenjohn said. Three Coast Guard boats, a fire boat and a helicopter responded to the call, he said. The two injured crewmen were taken to San Francisco General Hospital. A nursing supervisor said one of the men was in critical condition with second- and third-degree burns on his face, hands and feet. The other crewman was listed in serious condition with second- and third-degree burns on his hands and feet. Names were not released. No oil spill or air pollution was reported in connection with the blast, Wullenjohn said.
