Stylish Lass Wins Hollywood Park Feature

Stylish Lass, ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, overtook Young Flyer approaching the far turn and held on to win the $35,000 Hollywood Park turf feature race by a half length Wednesday.

The 9-5 favorite of the crowd of 19,429, Young Flyer, under Eddie Delahoussaye, finished second 1 3/4 lengths in front of Gold Firecracker, ridden by Chris McCarron, in a field of six in the race for 3-year-olds and up.

Stylish Lass covered 1 1/16 miles over a firm course in 1:41 and earned $19,250 for her fourth victory in the last seven starts. The second win in a row boosted her total earnings to $86,510.

The 5-year-old, California-bred mare paid $14, $5.40 and $3.40. Young Flyer returned $3.40 and $2.40, while Gold Firecracker paid $2.60 to show.

Carrying 116 pounds, Stylish Lass stayed close and battled for command at the far turn responding gamely in the drive to prevail.

Young Flyer, also carrying 116, set the pace and fought to retain the lead losing it in the closing yards. Gold Firecracker, carrying 115, stalked the leaders but lacked the needed finish.
