The City Council approved a disaster-management plan that spells out how to deal with catastrophes ranging from floods to nuclear war.

Based on a guide provided by the state’s Office of Emergency Services, the “Multihazard Functional Plan” was drawn up by the Police Department and introduced by Chief Marvin Iannone at a City Council meeting Tuesday night.

The plan, which includes checklists for dealing with specific emergencies, will be tested with a series of mock exercises, Iannone said.
