Utts Turns Tables on Brader to Win Ventura Street Stock

For 10 laps, Lynn Brader of Somis and Charles Utts of Camarillo retraced their steps of a week ago in the 15-lap Street Stock main event Friday night at Ventura Raceway.

Brader, who edged Utts last week in a tight battle, again held a narrow lead over the track points leader. But on Turn 4, the pressure took its toll as Brader spun into the infield and Utts went on to post his fourth main-event victory of the season.

Hector Cruz of Tujunga finished second and Brader wound up third.

In the Mini Stock division, Gary Curtis of Camarillo took the last half-lap with a flat right front tire but still managed to win the 20-lap main, his 10th victory this season. Curtis also won the figure-8 main event and a heat race.

Chris Rasche of Ventura and Rock Ake, Jr. of Moorpark were second and third, respectively, in the main event.

Don Famularo of Canyon Country was in command in the Street Stock figure 8 main until he lost power over the final two laps, allowing Tom Stephens of Ventura to surge to victory. Famularo wound up second and his brother, Bill Famularo of Simi Valley, placed third.

Racing continues tonight at the raceway featuring United States Auto Club midget and three-quarter midget open wheel cars. The program starts at 7 p.m.
