CBS’ Western miniseries “Lonesome Dove” was named best program of the year and best drama, and CBS’ “Murphy Brown” was named best comedy by the Television Critics Assn. A career achievement award was also presented posthumously to Lucille Ball by the 120-member association, which is meeting in Los Angeles to preview network, cable and syndicated programming for the coming TV season. The other awards presented Friday night included “What’s Alan Watching?” as best special; “The Jim Henson Hour,” which was canceled by NBC, as best children’s program; Cable News Network for best news and information for the second year in a row; and NBC’s coverage of the Summer Olympics for best sports programming.
