Downey : Gadfly’s Charges Against 10 City Officials Rejected
- Share via
The district attorney’s office has rejected as unsubstantiated the criminal allegations against four Downey City Council members and six other Downey officials who were arrested en masse by gadfly John Gonzalez earlier this month.
Gonzalez accused the officials of a variety of crimes, including misuse of taxpayers’ money, when he made the citizen’s arrests during a July 11 council meeting. The city officials were never taken into custody because Downey Police Chief Pete Stone also found the allegations to be unsubstantiated. But Stone forwarded the complaints, as required by law, to the district attorney’s office.
“The case is being rejected,” Lt. David Lara, of the district attorney’s special investigations division, said earlier this week. “We feel there is no merit.”
