Land Purchase OKd for High School in Valencia
School trustees in the Santa Clarita Valley have approved a $15.5-million agreement with Newhall Land & Farming Co. to buy 44 acres in Valencia for a new high school.
Clyde Smyth, superintendent of the William S. Hart Union High School District, said Wednesday that the district is waiting for state education officials to allocate funds for the purchase, approved by Hart trustees Tuesday night. The purchase price is good for 90 days, and Smyth said the district expects to hear from the state before the deadline.
The Hart district had about 9,000 students during the last school year. District trustees hope to build the new 2,000-student school by 1992. The site is in an undeveloped area near a proposed housing development.
