A 9-year-old San Diego boy was listed in critical condition Wednesday at Children’s Hospital after being attacked with a wooden board in front of Southwest High School earlier in the day, San Diego police reported.

The boy, identified by the hospital as Joshua Garrett, was riding his bicycle along the 1600 block of Hollister Avenue at 12:35 p.m. when a white Datsun sedan drove up behind him. One of the passengers then struck him on the head with a piece of lumber or a baseball bat, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

Police are looking for four Latino males between the ages of 18 and 21, all wearing blue baseball caps and blue bandannas, Robinson said. Police are asking anyone with information on the case to contact the department’s Southern Division station in San Ysidro at 236-5901.
