Farrah Fawcett has been cast in “Small Sacrifices,” a two-part ABC docudrama. She will play Diane Downs, a young Oregon mother convicted of shooting her three children in a reported attempt to win back her lover. John Shea, an Emmy Award winner for his portrayal of the father of “Baby M,” also stars.

“Tailspin: Behind the Korean Airline Tragedy,” a dramatic look at events surrounding the 1983 airline disaster, will be an HBO Showcase presentation Aug. 20. Michael Murphy and Michael Moriarty star.

Sept. 6 will be the date of the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards, to be telecast live on MTV from the Universal Amphitheatre here. Arsenio Hall is booked to be the master of ceremonies for this sixth edition of the MTV honors. This year’s awards will have four new categories to reflect MTV’s diversified video programming: best rap video, dance video, heavy metal video and post-modern video.

“L.A. Law’s” Jill Eikenberry is set to star in NBC’s “The Diane Martin Story,” about a single mother who is forced to leave her teaching post because the school board does not believe she was raped. Also in the cast are Richard Masur, Joe Spano, Lew Ayres and Anne Schedeen.
