Help-Wanted Ads Slip: The level of job advertising in 51 of the nation’s major newspapers dropped in the month of June, the Conference Board reported. The board, a group of top corporate executives that regularly conducts a variety of economic surveys and studies, said its help-wanted advertising index fell to 148 in June, compared to 154 in May and 156 in June 1988. The seasonally adjusted index was set at 100 in 1967. Ken Goldstein, economist for the Conference Board, said employment growth had slowed, “especially in the cyclically sensitive durable-goods industries.”
