Favored Oraibi Draws Off, Wins Del Mar Feature
Oraibi, the 8-5 favorite under Laffit Pincay Jr., returned to action after a two-month layoff to win the featured $50,000 Belles for Mental Health Purse before a crowd of 12,658 at Del Mar Thursday.
Oraibi came to the outside in the stretch to take the lead and drew out for a 2 3/4-length victory in 1:08 4/5 for the six furlongs.
Oraibi a son of Forli and Dancing Liz, returned $5.20, $3.20 and $2.60. Don’s Irish Melody paid $3.60 and $3.20; Rendoo returned $6.40.
Pat Valenzuela, winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness aboard Sunday Silence, had three winners: Ex Beau at $16.80 in the first, Saros Town at $9.80 in the third and Beware Of The Cat at $20.40 in the seventh.
