Feiffer on Abortion
I would like to comment on Jules Feiffer’s July 23 cartoon response to the Supreme Court’s Webster decision.
The abortion issue is certainly far too complex for me to settle. However, at the heart of Mr. Feiffer’s commentary is the very dangerous suggestion that where abortion is made less readily available, we will see more abused, retarded and delinquent children. It is a short step from this notion to the conclusion that free access to abortion prevents an increase in the number of problem children.
This thinking is eugenically oriented, and it is terrible.
People need to think about what they’re saying, Mr. Feiffer included. His cartoon was obscene.
