Bandit Suspects’ Deaths Ruled Self-Defense
Officers acted in self-defense when they shot and killed two suspected border bandits in a December shoot-out, the San Diego County district attorney’s office said Monday.
Two San Diego police officers and three U. S. Border Patrol agents, who made up a Border Patrol Crime Prevention Unit, were on patrol late Dec. 21 near Dairy Mart and Monument roads in San Ysidro when they met several men who said they had been robbed, according to police reports.
The men pointed to another group of men on a bridge near the south levee of the Tijuana River, prompting several of the suspected bandits to shoot at the officers, police said.
Police said the officers returned the fire, killing two Mexican nationals. Three others fled back to Mexico.
