Lowe’s Probation

Share

The fact that actor Rob Lowe’s charge of “sexual exploitation of a minor” (Metro, July 30) was reduced from a possible 20 years in prison and a $100,000 fine to 20 hours of community service and 2 years probation suggests two things. First, that sexual exploitation of females is not taken seriously enough by our court system. Second, that crime pays if you are famous and can afford a good lawyer.

This “hybrid alternative” to prosecution for young, nonviolent first offenders is a joke. I have one question for Atlanta Dist. Atty. Lewis Slaton: What about the 16-year-old girl? She seems to have been lost in the shuffle.
