Less than six months after saying he was trying to rid himself of drugs, George Gervin, the former pro basketball star, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and driving while intoxicated in San Antonio.
Gervin, 37, was stopped after seen speeding and weaving on Interstate 410 in north-central San Antonio about 2:30 a.m. He was released on a personal recognizance bond shortly after 6 a.m.
Driving a black 1985 Porsche, Gervin was said to be traveling at 66 m.p.h. in a 55-m.p.h. zone, according to sheriff’s department reports. A substance believed to be marijuana was found in his possession, officials said.
Earlier this year, the former National Basketball Assn. All-Star was treated for what police said was an apparent drug overdose. According to a police report in that February incident, Gervin said he snorted what he thought was cocaine, but later said he did not know what the substance was.
