Glendale Hit by 2nd Blackout in Week

Share

Less than a week after the lights went out all over the city for more than an hour, Glendale suffered a second power failure Tuesday in a portion of its commercial district.

Bill Hall, the city’s electric services director, said Tuesday’s 15-minute outage was caused by a circuit overload. The blackout affected a portion of “at least 10 to 12 blocks” in the downtown commercial district, including part of the Glendale Galleria, Hall said.

Tuesday’s overload was caused by high demand for air conditioning on a hot day, he said.

It was not related to Friday’s citywide blackout, which was caused by a mistake by a Los Angeles city power worker at the substation that feeds power from the Los Angeles system into the Glendale system, Hall said.
