The World : 2 Parties Will See Walesa

Share

Two parties long allied with Poland’s ruling Communists asked for talks with Solidarity leader Lech Walesa on his proposal to form a non-Communist government. Walesa is said to be ready to hold such talks over the next two weeks. The Democratic Party and the United Peasants’ Party indicated it is too early to take a final stand on the proposal that Walesa made on Monday, five days after Parliament elected Communist Czeslaw Kiszczak as premier. But Aleksander Bentkowski, parliamentary leader of the United Peasants’ Party, told state television he believes his caucus now would vote against a Cabinet formed by Gen. Kiszczak. The Democratic Party said the wording of Walesa’s proposal “makes it difficult to take a final stand” and that it wants direct talks to clarify the offer.
