Fuentes Wins Unanimous Decision Over Aguilar to Take Title at Forum
Sammy Fuentes of Puerto Rico earned a unanimous 12-round decision over Rodolfo Aguilar of Panama to win the World Boxing Council Continental Americas super-lightweight title Monday night at the Forum.
Fuentes dominated the bout against Aguilar, who had a point deducted in the sixth round for holding.
It was a rematch of a draw May 15, when the boxers fought for the Forum super-lightweight title. In that fight, Fuentes knocked Aguilar down twice.
Monday night’s contest was scored 119-108 by judge Vince Delgado, 117-110 by Robert Byrd and 117-110 by Gwen Adair.
Fuentes earned $75,000 and improved his record to 21-6-1 with 13 knockouts. Aguilar, who earned $10,000, falls to 22-3-1, with 10 KOs.
On the undercard, Robert Byrd--no relation to the judge in the main event--won a unanimous 10-round decision over Jose Vidal in a quarterfinal bout in the $225,000 Forum super-featherweight tournament.
