A South Korean dissident student and a Catholic priest were detained by South Korean authorities as they crossed the heavily fortified border from the north to return home. Im Su Kyong, 21, a student, had defied Seoul’s ban on unauthorized visits to the north to attend a world youth festival last month in Pyongyang. She said she wanted to promote reunification of north and south. When the South Korean government threatened to arrest and punish her, activist Catholic priests sent Father Moon Kyu Hyun to join her and try to ensure her safe return home.
