Aikman Simply Executed Conservative Game Plan
Bob Oates certainly showed a lack of knowledge in being so very critical of Troy Aikman’s Dallas Cowboys’ debut.
Facts are that Aikman completed eight of 11 passes (one for a touchdown and one that set up a field goal), and had no interceptions. Both the television and radio announcers said that he had played an outstanding game. They further stated that Dallas was playing an extremely conservative game.
Troy Aikman always had good field position and never was required to throw a long pass. Yet, Oates displays his ignorance by criticizing Aikman’s “reluctance to throw the ball downfield.”
Doesn’t Oates know that the coaches set the game plan and call the plays--not the quarterbacks?
