LOCAL : Smoke Turns Back L.A.-Bound Jet

A faulty cabin light on a Los Angeles-bound United Airlines 727 emitted smoke shortly after takeoff today, forcing the plane to return to San Francisco airport.
The problem was traced to a burned-out overhead light in the passenger compartment, which began emitting smoke, tower spokesman Joe Pitts said. The plane had 115 passengers.
