The Joffrey Ballet’s upcoming production of Bronislava Nijinska’s 1923 masterwork “Les Noces” (to music by Igor Stravinsky) will be underwritten by the California State University system. The university will cover the costs of staging the ballet, including set and costume construction. It will also sponsor a benefit early next year to raise money for a wide range of activities involving the Joffrey and the CSU, including Master classes and the Joffrey II’s tours of CSU campuses, as well as the support of individual productions. The Joffrey began rehearsing “Les Noces” at Cal State Los Angeles on Aug. 1 and will continue through mid-September. The ballet will be performed in Los Angeles during the company’s 1990 spring season at the Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
