Machine Tool Orders Drop: Orders for U.S.-made machine tools fell sharply in July, weakened by a slump in the American auto industry, the National Machine Tool Builders Assn. reported. The association said new orders in July for domestic machine tools fell 20.5% to $155.65 million. Compared with July 1988, the machine tool orders were down a solid 29.7%. Foreign orders totalled $35.25 million in July 1989, down 21.3% from June.
