One of the new owners of the Seattle Mariners says he is open to the idea of changing the team’s name to the Seattle Rainiers, name of the city’s former minor league club.

“If the name matters to people, we’re willing to try it,” Indianapolis broadcasting magnate Jeff Smulyan said. “One thing we found in doing our extensive research is a fondness for the Rainiers. A lot of people here grew up with that name, and it may mean a lot to them.”
