Santa Ana : Motorcycle Passenger Killed in Hit-Run Crash

A Santa Ana man was killed and a another injured in a hit-run crash early Monday when a car hit a motorcycle, police said.

Arthur Armando Ramirez, 21, a passenger on the motorcycle, died at the scene of the accident, in the 1800 block of West 1st Street, Santa Ana police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said.

The motorcycle driver, Jaime Nunez, 21, was in fair condition Monday with a broken leg and internal injuries at UCI Medical Center in Orange, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police said a 1972 Ford Maverick hit the cycle about 1:40 a.m., knocking Ramirez and Nunez off the bike.

Neither man was wearing a helmet, Thomas said.

The car driver left the vehicle at the scene and ran off, she said.

Three hours later, police arrested a suspect, Salvadore Munguia Ramirez, 22, of Santa Ana in connection with the crash. The suspect, who is not related to the victim, was being held on suspicion of vehicular homicide and felony hit and run.
