One man was stabbed to death and two others were wounded in a fight that broke out at a birthday party in Burbank, police said Monday.

The violence erupted about 8:15 p.m. Sunday among several dozen people attending the party in an apartment in the 2300 block of Ontario Street, Burbank Police Sgt. Don Goldberg said.

“There was a lot of alcohol and a large group of men,” Goldberg said.

During the melee, which spilled out onto the street, three men were stabbed. One, David Robles, 25, who lived nearby, died about an hour later at St. Joseph’s Medical Center of chest wounds.

Audiel Gonzalez, 21, who lived in an apartment complex next door, was reported in serious condition Monday at County-USC Medical Center with stab wounds in the abdomen. Another man, Mario Joven, 23, who also lived in the building next door, was stabbed in the left side and was in serious condition at the same hospital.

Police arrested two men, Santiago Ponce, 21, and Ramon Ambriz, 35. Both men, who apparently lived in the apartment where the party was taking place, were booked on suspicion of murder.

No weapon had been recovered and detectives were still investigating the cause of the outburst of violence.
