Contractor Resigns From Planning Panel

Gregory C. Park, 48, the unlicensed electrical contractor removed from the Metro Rail project in May and charged last week with shorting his workers’ wages in a payroll kickback scheme, has resigned from his position on the Los Angeles County Citizens Planning Council.

The resignation, effective Monday, was requested by Supervisor Peter Schabarum, who had appointed Park to the post, a spokesman for the supervisor said.

Park has denied that his firm, PIE Construction Co. of Van Nuys, cheated its workers in any way.

The Southern California Rapid Transit District removed the firm from a $1.6-million contract to install electrical conduit in two Metro Rail stations after PIE’s contracting license expired.

The Los Angeles district attorney’s office subsequently charged that Park had falsified PIE payroll records and paid his workers only half the wages shown on their payroll checks.
