Chicago Bears hopeful Curtis Stewart, a fullback who blocked for Bo Jackson at Auburn, told Dan Pompei of the Chicago Sun-Times what he considers to be Jackson’s three greatest feats.

No. 1: Running a 4.16 40-yard dash at 230 pounds.

No. 2: High jumping 6-9 in high school to win a track meet even though he was ridiculously heavy to high jump.

No. 3: Walking into a weight room at Auburn, telling the strength coach he never lifts weights and doesn’t have to, and proceeding to bench press 400 pounds without a strain.

Social note: From John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, under the heading, “If at first you don’t succeed:

“Rams owner Georgia Frontiere is at it again. Frontiere is getting married for the eighth time on Nov. 8. Husband No. 8 is the distinguished Earle Weatherwax. No, he’s no duke of Earle, but he might be able to play it.

“Weatherwax, you see, was playing the piano at a singles mixer in Newport Beach when he met Frontiere, and it was love at first sight. Now, Earle has Georgia on his mind.”

Now-it-can-be-told Dept.: When New England Patriots cornerback Raymond Clayborn returned to the University of Texas after his rookie season to pursue his degree, he roomed with Heisman Trophy winner Earl Campbell.

Add Jackson: Yousef Jackson, the politician’s son, is a reserve linebacker who made one of Virginia’s rare standout defensive plays late in the third quarter, stopping Irish fullback Anthony Johnson for a one-yard gain, forcing Notre Dame to try for a field goal.

Still learning: From the Pittsburgh Press: “After St. Louis Cardinals reliever Todd Worrell gave up five runs in the second half of a rain-delayed doubleheader at Cincinnati at 2 a.m., Manager Whitey Herzog said: ‘I learned something about managing again. You know good and well you should never bring a clean liver into a game after 2 a.m., three hours after his bedtime.’ ”
