Fire Chars 14 Acres, Damages 2 Homes
A grass fire broke out in a residential neighborhood in Walnut Tuesday afternoon, charring about 14 acres of grass and damaging two homes before it was contained, authorities said.
About 200 firefighters and several helicopters battled the fire, reported about 2:20 p.m. near Lemon Avenue and Creekside Drive, County Fire spokesman Chris Button said. The creeping flames were contained about an hour later.
Two homes on Rimridge Road were damaged. One sustained about $1,000 damage when its shingle roof was set ablaze by embers carried on 10 m.p.h. winds. About $500 damage was done to a second home, also on Rimridge, but details were not immediately available.
