The wife of rock singer John Cougar Mellencamp has filed for divorce after eight years of marriage. The attorney for Victoria L. Mellencamp, 30, of Bloomington, Ind., confirmed the action but declined to discuss the case. The couple have been separated since May, 1988. Victoria Mellencamp filed the petition four days after the birth of the singer’s first grandchild, Elexis Suzanne Peach. The baby’s mother, Michelle Peach, 18, is the daughter of the 37-year-old Mellencamp and his first wife, Priscilla. Victoria Mellencamp is seeking custody of and child support for the couple’s two children, Teddi Joe, 8, and Justice, 4.
