A Whittier security guard was ordered Wednesday to stand trial in Pomona Superior Court for a series of roadway attacks on women driving in the Hacienda Heights area near the Pomona Freeway in June and July.

David Anthony McGregor, 18, faces 23 felony and misdemeanor charges, including impersonating a police officer, assault with a deadly weapon and intent to commit rape. McGregor is to be arraigned Sept. 20. Deputy Dist. Atty. Diana Smith said McGregor forced nine women to stop by the side of the road by pretending to be a police officer or by using a spotlight on his car. He struck several women with his fist, used tear gas on one victim and beat another with a flashlight, Smith said. All the women managed to escape without serious injury.

If convicted of all charges, McGregor faces a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.
