Prep Football Roundup : Brown Paces La Habra to Victory

Senior tailback LeMark Brown ran 11 yards for one touchdown and caught passes of seven and 10 yards from quarterback Mark Moreno for two others to lead La Habra High School to a 29-9 victory over La Serna.

Brown finished the night with 123 yards in 13 carries. Moreno had six completions in nine attempts for 67 yards and two scores.

La Habra’s other touchdown came on a six-yard run by fullback Jeff Besinaiz . Senior linebacker Chad Pitcher led the Highlander defense with 11 unassisted tackles and had three sacks. He also caused one fumble.

Mike Mooney had six tackles, two sacks and an interception, and Don Anderson had six tackles and an interception.

In other nonleague football games:

Orange 30, Chino 0--Junior tailback Acen Childs rushed for three touchdowns and scored a fourth on a seven-yard pass from Chris Thompson to pace the Panthers’ rout at Chino. Childs finished with 72 yards on 19 carries. The Panthers scored the first four times they had the ball. The Panther defense held the Cowboys to just five first downs and 94 yards total offense, 82 of them on 13 rushes by tailback Brian Williams. Williams got 40 of his yards on the Cowboys’ first play from scrimmage.

Katella 39, Magnolia 10--Bond Ren had 170 yards rushing on 22 carries with a 20-yard touchdown run to lead host Katella. Dennis Briggs and Greg Sawyer each scored twice for Katella

Fullerton 26, Anaheim 15--Chris Arias was eight of 10 passing for 147 yards and a touchdown to lead host Fullerton.

Sonora 21, Northview 18--Scott Sanders returned a blocked punt for a touchdown and caught a scoring pass from quarterback Ryan Lewis for another as Sonora broke open a close game with two touchdowns and a field goal in the third quarter.

Sanders, playing defensive end, recovered a blocked punt and ran three yards for a touchdown, then caught a four-yard touchdown pass from Lewis in the decisive quarter. Lewis also kicked a 19-yard field goal that proved to be the difference.

Servite 21, Long Beach Wilson 0--Fullback Mike Wallock gained 55 yards rushing, caught four passes for 28 yards and scored a touchdown as Servite High School shut out Long Beach Wilson, 21-0, at Long Beach. The victory marked a successful head coaching debut for long-time Friars assistant Larry Toner.

Servite, traditionally a strong defensive team, limited Wilson to 31 yards passing. Defensive end Greg Fish anchored the line that held Wilson to only 86 yards rushing.

Hacienda Heights Wilson 27, Los Amigos 0--Tailback Malcolm Thomas scored touchdowns on runs of six and 25 yards as Wilson scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to win the first game in its newly dedicated football stadium.
