Big West Roundup : Fresno St. Gets Past Montana

Mark Barsotti threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another score as Fresno State dodged an upset bid by Montana with a 52-37 nonconference victory Saturday night at Fresno.

Montana, a Division I-AA school, rallied from an earlier 21-3 deficit behind the passing of quarterback Grady Bennett, who threw for 387 yards and three touchdowns.

Barsotti completed 12 of 21 for 142 yards .

Tailback Aaron Craver rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs in a game that produced 22 penalties totaling more than 200 yards.

The Bulldogs drew 10 penalities for 105 yards. The Grizzlies were flagged 12 times for 104 yards.

Nevada Las Vegas 16, Weber State 12--Fullback Darin Brightmon caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Charles Price and later scored on a 16-yard run to lift the Rebels past the Wildcats at Las Vegas.

The Rebels, who lost, 69-0, to Houston in their opener last week, trailed the Division I-AA Wildcats, 6-3, at halftime.

UNLV scored its first touchdown of the season for a 10-6 lead on Price’s touchdown pass to Brightmon with 56 seconds left in the third quarter.

Brightmon broke loose for his touchdown run with 10:27 left in the game for a 16-6 lead.

The Wildcats, playing their season opener under new coach Dave Arslanian, got the final score when Ryan Schmidt threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to tight end Trevor Shaw with 5:15 left to play.

Rebel tailback Tommy Jackson gained 104 yards in 21 carries. Brightmon gained 90 yards in 18 carries.
