Dowis, Johnson Help Lift Air Force to 45-7 Victory
Quarterback Dee Dowis ran for 201 yards and two touchdowns and fullback Greg Johnson scored three times as the Air Force Academy defeated Wyoming, 45-7, Sunday night in a Western Athletic Conference football game.
Dowis, who set a single-game rushing record with 249 yards a week earlier, ran his career rushing total to 2,776 yards to break John Kershner’s school mark of 2,726.
Dowis, a 153-pound senior, scored on runs of seven and one yards in the second half to set an Air Force career record of 31 rushing touchdowns, breaking the previous mark of 30 held by Marty Louthan.
The victory put the Falcons’ conference record at 2-0. Wyoming fell to 0-1 in the conference and 0-2 overall.
It was the first conference defeat for Wyoming Coach Paul Roach since he took over the head coaching duties for the Cowboys two years ago, ending a string of 16 consecutive conference victories.
