RETAILING : Georg Jensen and Burberrys Joining Designer-Names at South Coast Plaza

Share

South Coast Plaza--home for some of the glitziest names this side of Rodeo Drive--is adding two more designer-name retailers.

Georg Jensen, a premier name in museum-quality silver and porcelain, will open its first West Coast store on Sept. 14. And Burberrys, internationally known for its raincoats and trench coats, will open later this month.

The retailers are among the growing number of signature stores that Henry Segerstrom has lured to his mall. The roster already includes Gucci, Cartier, Mark Cross, Polo/Ralph Lauren, Saint Laurent rive gauche and Louis Vuitton U.S.A.

The 2,000-square-foot Georg Jensen store will be located on the mall’s first level, opposite Tiffany & Co. and next to Nordstrom.

The store will feature Danish decorative arts, including the elaborate “Flora Danica” table setting. The dinner service, owned by people such as Queen Elizabeth II, is one of the most expensive made today--a soup tureen is $5,580 and service for 12 is $30,000. Another familiar pattern is the Blue Fluted table service, a delicate blue and white pattern that is exported to more than 80 different countries.

The store will be managed by Diana Armenise, who has been with Gucci for 13 years. Other Georg Jensen stores in the United States are in New York and Chicago.

Burberrys, meanwhile, plans to open on the mall’s second level, adjacent to Bullock’s.

The London-based retailer specializes in classic, high-quality sportswear, coats and other garments.

Burberrys has 13 U.S. stores, including a store in San Francisco.
